We are excited to announce the launch of the “Nyiri Ulurunyatjara” project, a community-led initiative marking 40 years of joint management at Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park (UKTNP). Named by the Aṉangu community, Nyiri Ulurunyatjara, meaning “paper about handback,” will create a community based book celebrating the Elders that have contributed land rights movement and establishing joint management in UKTNP. The 40th anniversary is especially crucial, as it is likely the last one that key Aṉangu Elders involved in the original Park Handback will be alive for. Community engagement is central to this project, featuring photo collection days, interviews, and Aṉangu-led workshops.
The National Parks Conservation Trust has secured initial funding from Aris Ancillary Foundation and Thynk Environmental Solutions and is seeking the final funding requirements to bring the project to life. Partnerships with Muṯitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation, Central Land Council, Maruku Arts, Walkatjara Arts, and others further strengthen this united effort to preserve cultural heritage.
Thynk Environmental Solutions and Aris Tech Foundation are both dedicated to supporting sustainability and cultural preservation, recognising that protecting Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is vital for future generations.
We are actively seeking additional funding to ensure this important project is fully realised for the 2025 celebrations.
