The Abbott’s Booby nests only on Christmas Island. They mate for life and maintain the same nest site throughout their lives.
The modest Christmas Island National Park seabird rehabilitation facility cares for approximately 80-100 orphaned or injured birds annually, including Abbott’s boobies, red-footed and brown boobies.
This was a vital project as there are only 3,000 breeding pairs left of the majestic Abbott’s Booby that grows up to 80 centimeters and has a wingspan of 2 metres!
Supporters of this project helped provide bird feed, veterinary care, supplies at the rehab centre and vital habitat conservation to these iconic birds of Christmas Island
Thank you for caring about one of Australia’s rarest and most special birds!
