Christmas Island is the only place in the world where the Christmas Island Frigatebird breeds.
The Christmas Island Frigatebird forages in waters impacted by marine debris therefore ingestion of plastics is a regular risk as well as being vulnerable to the introduction of new diseases, cyclones and other major weather events.
This project was vital as there are currently only 5,000 left and they are the rarest endemic seabird on the Island. These spectacular birds have a wingspan of 2.5 meters and can live to 50 years!
Thank you for caring about one of Australia’s rarest and most special birds.
